Plaza Suite

By Neil Simon

Directed by Tom Roy

Hilarity abounds in this portrait of three couples successively occupying a suite at the Plaza. A suburban couple take the suite while their house is being painted and it turns out to be the one in which they honeymooned 23 (or was it 24?) years before and was yesterday the anniversary, or is it today? This wry tale of marriage in tatters is followed by the exploits of a Hollywood producer who, after three marriages, is looking for fresh fields. He calls a childhood sweetheart, now a suburban housewife, for a little sexual diversion. Over the years she has idolized him from afar and is now more than the match he bargained for. The last couple is a mother and father fighting about the best way to get their daughter out of the bathroom and down to the ballroom where guests await her or as mamma yells, "I want you to come out of that bathroom and get married!" "Wonderfully funny.... The blockbuster (3rd playlet) is the wildest and most uproarious farce I have seen on a stage." N.Y. Daily News. "Set the town laughing." N.Y. Times. "A wonderfully happy and gratifying evening of sheer entertainment.... Richly funny." N.Y. Post.

THE CAST

Desiree Woidill—Muriel Tate—Act 2. Des is from Lebanon and is a recent graduate of the Theatre Department at Slippery Rock University. She has extensive training in voice and movement, acting and directing, playwriting, stage combat and more. In short, the minute she walked in the door we knew we had a winner…and our Muriel…standing right in front of us! Desiree is an account representative at Cutting Edge Media.

Ruth Roy—Karen Nash in Act 1—Norma Hubley in Act 3. Ruth is from the metropolis of Ebenezer, and she says she is delighted to once again tread the boards at LCT. She first appeared here in a play “too long ago to remember the name,” but recent theatregoers will recall her fine work in Greetings, Over The River And Through The Woods, Last Night of Ballyhoo, and The Innocents. Her year round work is that of an herbalist, with a shop at the Renaissance Faire, as well as online at www.wellcat.com.

Odd that a wife could be so excellent to work with and that she takes direction so well. Ruth is an absolute treat to work with.

Andrew Mannion—Jesse Kiplinger—Act 2. At the ripe old age of 19, Andrew already has an established theatre resume` that includes acting, singing, directing, set design and construction. He is a theatre major at Elizabethtown College, and we knew we had our Jesse the moment he set foot on the stage at auditions. This is Andrew’s first show at LCT. He hails from the Baltimore area.

Juan MoralesWaiter in Acts 1 & 2—Borden Eisler in Act 3. Juan is a resident of Lebanon, and although he has no theatre credit, we knew he was “a natural” the moment we began to work with him during the audition process. Watch for him through the years, because we see good things in his theatre future. This is Juan’s first show at LCT.
Megan LaFauciJean McCormack in Act 1. When she’s not at work at Lancaster’s Womens and Babies Hospital, Megan is taking acting lessons at the Fulton Opera House or driving to as far away as Philadelphia for professional auditions. This is her first LCT production.
John KelseySam Nash in Act 1. John is not only big, bodacious and bold on the set; he also built the set! Our board president once more takes to the stage, to the delight of us all. Out there in the so-called “real” world, John is an esteemed defense attorney, headquartered in Lebanon.
Bruce KissingerRoy Hubley in Act 3. Here’s another LCT veteran actor, director and all-around important volunteer and board member. We first met Bruce during Over The River And Through The Woods, and then we co-directed Ballyhoo and The Innocents. All the way through the audition process we kept looking for just the right Roy Hubley, and all of a sudden it dawned on us that he was standing right there, in the form of Bruce Kissinger.

Kaitlyn Zerbe—Bellhop in Act 1—Mimsey Hubley in Act 3. What a treat to work with the reigning Miss Pennsylvania Teen! From Pine Grove, Kaitlyn is a scholar, a dancer, a singer, a musician and…well…just an all-around charmer. This is her first production at LCT and we’re delighted to work with such exuberance.

THE STAFF
Tom Roy - Director.

Tom made his first LCT appearance as Major Frank Burns in M*A*S*H back in the late 80s playing opposite his wife Ruth’s “Hot Lips” Houlihan. He was next seen as Grandpa Frank in Over The River And Through The Woods, and then he directed, with Bruce Kissinger, The Last Night Of Ballyhoo and The Innocents. On stages elsewhere he has had lead roles at Pulse Ensemble in New York, the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia, and the Fulton Opera House in Lancaster.

Tom is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation Of Television & Radio Artists, and his credits there include the role of the street preacher in Terry Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys, two shots on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, and more.

A 22-year veteran of radio, he can still be heard often on regional stations doing commercials, especially the award-winning York College What Did You Learn Today series. He can be seen, as well, as one of the beleaguered souls in the current Catholic Charities public service spots on TV.

Tom says he loves directing as much as acting and acting as much as directing.

Mike Roy—Stage Manager. A fine young man, and a fine young actor—he was Miles, the ghost-possessed lad in The Innocents—Michael is also an old hand, at age 15, in theatre production. He is a performing arts student at the Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School, www.palcs.org, as well as a 9-year veteran performer with the acting company at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. Michael is an accomplished student of fencing and kendo.
Amy Johnson—Costume Designer. If you saw The Innocents or if you’ve ever attended any of the events at Mount Hope Estate & Winery (such as the Renaissance Faire, Poe, Dickens) you have seen Amy’s art at work. She rules! And she is so very easy to work with.
